Multifactor Authentication FAQs
Our member’s online and telephone banking security has always been a top priority. Soon, we’ll be upgrading both systems to offer a new security service, which is known in the security industry as Multifactor Authentication, to further help protect you from identity theft. At Family First Federal Credit Union we refer to this as Enhanced Login Security.
What is Multifactor Authentication?
Multifactor Authentication is superior security technology that protects your accounts from unauthorized access by strengthening the security of your banking session. When you login to your Internet banking session you can have peace of mind. Powered by the best-of breed technology, Multifactor Authentication protects against online fraud by requiring an additional authentication ‘factor’ beyond your account number and access code used today. For the telephone banking system a secondary pin number will be required.
Online Multifactor Authentication will:
o Defend against identity theft and fraud.
o Provide added security from any computer, wherever you are.
o Make it easy for you with one-time sign-up and convenient access.
How will the Enhanced Login Security set up work for my accounts?
Soon you will be prompted to sign up when you login to your online banking session or the telephone banking system. For online banking, sign up once at your computer, set up your “challenge questions,” and you're all set. For telephone banking sign up once with your secondary pin number and you’re all set.
What are challenge questions?
Family First will require each online banking user to answer three questions that they will easily know the answer to. Some examples are:
What is the name of your first pet?
What high school did you attend?
You will need to answer these questions as part of the authentication process if you login to home banking from a different computer. The answers are case-sensitive and need to be answered in exactly the same way as you first entered them. Remember, if multiple members access a joint account online the challenge question answers need to be used by both users.
Can I access my account from other computers at my home, my office or on the road?
Multifactor Authentication identifies you as the true “owner” of your accounts by recognizing not only your password but your computer as well. If we don’t recognize your computer – you’ve logged in from a public computer or one you haven’t used before, for example, – we’ll ask you challenge questions as an additional line of defense to prevent unauthorized access. With Enhanced Login Security, you’ll be protected from whatever computer you're using, whether you're at home or on the go.
